New Mariusnet Website

The fine folks over at Mariusnet have just redesigned their website. The redesign merges the old Mythforums website with Mariusnet as well as adding a new clean interface. I never really understood why those were 2 different sites with different logins, so merging tham makes me happy.

You can find the site at http://mariusnet.com.

Some of the new features include:

 * Existing Accounts - You can log in immediately with your existing Mariusnet metaserver username & password. No need to register again
 * New Accounts - the web accounts here and your game server accounts are one and the same. If you register an account here, the server account is automatically created. If you change your password here, it changes on the game server.
 * Clan - All Clan management functions have been moved here. Creating, Leaving or Joining a clan has never been easier. Just start a clan and send out some Clan Invitations. Joining a clan is as simple as the click of a button on your invitation.
 * Plugins Center - Has been moved here from MythForums and it has been given some updated functionality. I expect this to receive still further updates.

I hope this will help encourage people to move from Playmyth to Mariusnet. It's a great server, and now easier than ever to setup an account.

Project Magma is proud to announce a new update of Bungie's classic addictive real-time tactical game, Myth II: Soulblighter along with The Tain a file hosting archive dedicated to the “Myth” series.

Myth II version 1.6, adds native MacOS X map making tools along with a Universal Binary for OS X. Not to be left out the Windows version received some modernization that drastically cut down startup times, allows the game to be played in a window, and shares the CPU better with other tasks.

The Tain is a moderated file hosting site for the Myth and a central site for the community to find and download plugins, updates, and tools for the entire Myth series.

So head on over to TheTain.net, grab Myth II 1.6, then play Myth and have fun.

Emonds Field Released

After Rand, Perrin's childhood friend, conquered the Stone of Tear and was declared the Dragon Reborn, Perrin heard rumours that the Children of the Light had been terrorizing the Two Rivers. They were actually trying to get Rand to return, but Perrin did it instead, bringing Loial, Faile and their Aiel friends Gaul, Bain and Chiad. After a harrowing passage through the Ways, they arrived at Emond's Field to find Perrin's family dead, and not only Whitecloaks but Trollocs in the area. While the Two Rivers folk waffled, Perrin took charge, not because he wanted to be in charge but because he knew what to do. He united the Two Rivers region and repelled both forces.

The Power of Ten Mapmaking Contest

History has taught us that, rather than being a hindrance, contests that require a specific themed limitation on their entries often benefit all sorts of creativity, inevitably resulting in a crop of excellent and fun submissions. The challenge of this contest will be to create a great map using a limited number of unit types, the maximum being, naturally, ten. The contest will begin on Thursday, February 1st, 2007, and will end on Thursday, April 12th, 2007.

For more information and registration go to the Power of Ten site: http://onyxwarlords.com/thepoweroften

The Onyx Warlords Mapmakers present: Grave Tidings!

Set during the Great War, Grave Tidings pits your small force of determined men of the Legion against a seemingly endless horde of the Dark. Hold the hill and protect the messenger, for he carries news that could decide the fate of the West and shape the course of the war. Your enemies know the stakes, and howl for your blood. Rank upon rank of shambling corpses, carnivorous beasts, and cursed spirits are already making their way toward your position. Will you snatch victory from their ravenous clutches, or fall beneath their staggering weight?

My goal for Grave Tidings was to create a level that was epic in scale, but kept the traditional style of Myth gameplay that I love. It features a modest (by today’s standards, at least) 1200 enemies, but provides a harrowing challenge nonetheless as you will not be able to rely on superhuman units. Grave is full of explosive carnage and hectic clashes, and includes a number of special features including voice acting, inventory switching, magic bows, easter eggs, a bonus level, a warrior captain whose special ability drains health from an enemy and transfers it to himself, and more! I’ve had fun with this level and I hope you will too, whether you are a fan of epic endurance coops or more traditional Myth.

Grave Tidings requires Myth II 1.6 to play.

You can find Grave Tidings in our Coop section. So grab it and lets kill some undead!

Myth and the website are still running strong despite the lack of news updates. I've recently added a forum to the site, to try and keep track of all the hiding MA's. Anyone else is welcome to post. As with most things on this site, I mostly put it in there to see if I could.

Myth World Cup is over. It seems The Northern Paladins won. I might be excited if I actually knew who they were. It amazes me how much of the community is segregated by the ranked/unranked line. My team did horrible and ended up forfeiting. I expected the horrible, but not the forfeit. Hopefully we can do better next year. Despite the losses (we did have 1 win which was very exhilarating) we had tons of fun.

It seems I've also been using skype a lot recently. It is a pretty fun way to play myth. If you have skype and are ever in a game with me, just hollar and we can get a conference going.

Warriors of Myth

The Warrior is by far my favorite Myth Unit. I mean come on, how cool would it be to walk around in chain mail with a sword and shield. Everyone wants to. So why does the warrior suck in Myth? Because Bungie crippled the Warrior.

Think about it. If you were going into battle in the days of bows and swords you can bet you'd wanna go in with armor. Not a freaking loincloth but some real armor. Ever play an RPG? You start out in crappy rags, and as you go thru the game you get armor to protect your unit. It just makes sense.

Lets compare the Warrior to the Berserk? Anyone who's played myth knows the zerk is by far the superior unit and would easily win Head to head. But what makes the Berserk better? Lets open up fear and compare a few differences and similarities.

Warrior's attributes

Vitality: 5.5

Effect modifiers 1.0 for all

Base Speed .033

Damage 0.5 to 0.547

Recovery Time 0.1

Special Attributes: Can block

Berserk's attributes

Vitality: 5.5

Effect modifiers 0.5 for Paralysis 1.0 for the rest

Base Speed .045

Damage 0.547 to 0.648

Recovery Time 0.0

Special Attributes: Experience proportional to Damage

Most of the rest of the attributes are the same. I showed vitality to emphasize they have the same health. 2 molotov's will kill a zerk as easily as a warrior.

There are a few things that make sense to me. Since the berserk has no armor it makes sense that he moves faster and even has less recovery time. The berserk has a huge claymore so it would be expected that he does more damage. Experience proportional to damage is due to the berserks crazy nature. I can accept all that.

But look at those effect modifiers. The warrior has 1.0 for slashing and all other types of damage, while the berserk has 0.5 for paralysis and 1.0 for slashing and all other types of damage. I mentioned slashing for a reason. Sure the warrior has the ability to block and that explains his shield, but what about his chain mail? It isn't made of plastic is it? Wouldn't it make sense that slashing damage would be less for someone with armor than someone without?

Slashing isn't the only damage that would be lessened by wearing chian mail. Kinetic maybe? If I hit you with a rock or a bat your surely gonna wish you had some protection. It may not be as much protection as against a blade, but it should still help. I would even say the armor should protect against paralysis because the ghast or wight isn't actually touching the skin most of the time, they are touching the armor.

Now there should be offsets. Being clad in metal should make you a great conduit for electricity. Pump up the electrical damage then. Fire also could be worse, as superheated metal isn't good for anyones skin. I would guess Explosive, Stone, Gas, and Confusion damage types would all be unaffected by the armor.

How do I think effect Modifiers should be? Something like this.

Warrior

Slashing damage: 0.5

Kinetic damage: 0.6

Explosive damage: 1.0

Electrical damage: 1.5

Fire damage: 1.2

Paralysis: 0.8

Stone: 1.0

Gas damage: 1.0

Confusion: 1.0

Berserk

All Damage Types: 1.0

Does it make a difference? Lets see.

16 regular warriors vs 9 stygs.
MWC 2006 Registration has opened

From the [url=http://www.mwc06.com]MWC06 Website.

We have opened registration today, like you probably knew already. The registration will stay open for three weeks or until we reach the ideal amount of teams, so sign up already! We have a whopping 1000$ grand prize this year, but make sure you check out our other prizes as well. We have made some exciting changes to the old mwc formula, such as balanced out scoring system, changed fallback time and hopefully more accurate threat assessments.

The site will be improved further before the tournament starts, but most of the essential stuff is already working.

Let's make this tournament a good one, folks!

Should be interesting. Hopefully it works better than last year's did. I'm guessing the prize money should be decent motivation for that.

They've set it up so you can just use your PlayMyth username and password which is pretty sweet. Helps prevent posers as well as making login quick and easy.

MYTHTALES.COM WEBSITE OPENS WITH CALL FOR WRITERS TO SUBMIT WORKS OF FICTION BASED ON THE MYTH GAME UNIVERSE.

Myth Tales is a forthcoming site designed to promote interest and activity amongst fans of the popular Myth computer strategy games. It is intended as a not-for-profit publishing venue for fiction writers.

Starting today, writers, as well as potential readers, are invited to visit the pre-site for Myth Tales.
